Benito "Benny" Martinez

March 21, 1941 — November 4, 2023

Benito “Benny” Martinez devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend was called home to the Lord on November 4, 2023, after a brief illness. Benny was 82 years young.

Benny was born in March 1941 in Dilley, Texas to Guadalupe and Bernardo Martinez.

Benny loved all his children dearly and had a special bond with each of them. He taught them respect, passed on his work ethic and the importance of family. They were raised with his loving hands and his stern voice. The stern voice was how they knew he meant business. During his final days he repeatedly told them how much he loved and was proud of his children.

Benny worked as a farmer most of his life. He took pride in his work; you could tell by the straight rows in the fields he plowed. He was sought-after for his knowledge and work ethic on the farm. Later in life, he worked and retired from Floyd County, where he worked as a maintainer operator. Benny loved fishing and was most at home outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking, crafts, and jewelry making. Benny never met a stranger. He was sure to make you laugh if you spent more than two minutes in his presence!

Benny is survived by his children Isabel Alvarez, Maybelle Monreal (Richard), Emma Schoen (Wallace), Benita Reyes (Juan), Ray Martinez (Cristi), Robert Lopez (Martha), Diana Trejo (Juan), Nancy Hernandez (Fidel), Cathy Nava (Andy), Laura Ramos (Frank); grandchildren; Amy Alvarez, Mark Alvarez, Ryan Monreal, Brandon Monreal, Jacob Rodriguez, Elizabeth Schoen, Eric Schoen, Stephanie Reyes, David Reyes, Ethan Martinez, and Logan Martinez; many more grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Irma Garcia; brothers, Joe Martinez and Alfredo Martinez.

Benny is reunited with those who preceded in death:  wife, Josephine “Josie” Martinez; son, Ralph Martinez; daughter, Gina Salinas; mother, Guadalupe Martinez; father, Bernardo Martinez; siblings, Raymond Martinez, Fidel Martinez, Ismael Martinez, Domingo Martinez, and Manuela Mendoza.
