Ardath Adams Meeden Kakavas, 90, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on January 4, 2025. She was born in Peoria, Illinois, and her parents were Dorothy and Tod Rowen. Ardath is survived by daughters, Andrea Meeden Salinas (Felix) and Jenny Meeden Bailey (Brent); grandchildren, Randolph Bailey and Caroline Bailey; and sisters, Sandy Adams Parker and Jan Adams DeVrieze. Ardath is also survived by extended family and friends. Her husband Lynn Meeden, her husband Basil Kakavas, and her sister Penny Adams Youngquist predeceased her. She was active until almost the end and was able to enjoy and share her prowess on the piano up to a week before she passed.
Ardath valued her family and friends, education, music, travel, and doing what she could to advance civil rights, social justice, and preserving the environment. Ardath received a bachelor’s degree in Biology, a master’s degree in Library Science, and a second master’s degree in Communications and Media. She had a long career in education, was President of her teachers’ union from 1969 to 1973, and retired as second in charge to the school district superintendent. In her retirement she enjoyed her church, traveling, and especially spending time with her family.
A private burial was held at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery on January 15, 2025.
