Alma Erlene Hanover was born on June 9, 1928, to Earl Lloyd and Alma Olivia (Iverson) Hanover, on a small farm in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She had two brothers: Lloyd, older, and Lynn, younger.
Erlene’s early life was defined by faith, family and farm life. Self-sufficiency and humility, kindness, and an abiding love of God were sown in her young life; traits that continued to the end of her days.
Erlene was a member of the 1944 graduating class of Central High School in Tulsa. She worked as a secretary as a young adult.
Erlene Hanover married Coy Colvin in 1950, residing in Tulsa until moving to Richardson, Texas in 1969. They had four children: Carol Jean, Keith Vincent, Alan Brent and Sherry Kay. Erlene was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, and husband. She is survived by her four children, five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. They include (children) Carol Baggett, Keith Colvin, Alan Colvin, Sherry Colvin DeLozier; (grandchildren) Lyndsey Strahan, Allyson Dale, Sarah Carr, Katherine Colvin, Blythe Colvin; and (great-grandchild) Kira Aylin Carr.
Erlene’s love for her family was second only to her devotion to God. She adored her kids and grandkids and was also a loving sister, aunt, and loyal friend over the years. A praying woman whose faith was her strength, she sought God’s goodness and grace for her family and friends.
She lived simply, and thrived on being a mom and grandmother; also, a homemaker, an animal lover, a baseball fan, baker, seamstress, gardener, recycler, volunteer, and always active in her church. In all that she pursued, she was motivated by kindness and caring.
After being diagnosed with dementia, she lived with her daughter Sherry, who cared for her for the last several years. Erlene passed away on November 7, 2021, in Cedar Creek, Texas.
Now, we celebrate, as the Gates of Heaven welcome Erlene to life in eternity. God’s grace, complete. Reunited with loved ones. Fully whole, experiencing all that is truly good and beautiful.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable contributions in memory of Erlene Colvin be made to Brain Support Network, PO Box 7264, Menlo Park, CA 94026, www.brainsupportnetwork.org
