Abrum John (AJ) Lynch, 86, of Red Rock, Texas, passed away on February 14th in Austin, Texas.
AJ was born in Bandera, Texas to George and Lois Lynch on October 19, 1937. He attended elementary and middle school in Bandera and high school in San Antonio at Sam Houston High School. He married Pansy Marie Prutch on August 30, 1958 in San Antonio. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1959.
AJ then entered the Junior Executive Training program with Southwestern Bell Telephone company. AJ’s 37 year career with Southwestern Bell relocated the family several times with jobs in Dallas, Corpus Christi, Uvalde, Austin, St. Louis, Kansas City and Houston. He served 8 years in the Navy reserve. In 1976 he moved to Houston for the third time and remained there until his retirement in 1996. He was involved in numerous organizations such as Rotary International, where he served as the President of the Houston Club and as the Lombardi Award Chairman, The Houston Breakfast Club, Boy Scouts of America where he received the Silver Beaver Award, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Board of Directors for American Automobile Association of Texas(AAA), Chairman of the Board for Houston Community College and Chairman of the Board Twelve Oaks Hospital.
After retirement, AJ returned to his agricultural roots raising cattle on his ranch in Red Rock. AJ and Pansy loved to travel and visited 49 of the 50 states. He enjoyed pheasant hunting in South Dakota every October.
AJ is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pansy, his children, Scott & wife Tina, Randall & wife Kay, Marie & husband Allen Hamblen, his grandchildren, Ryan Lynch, Reagan Lynch, Andrew Lynch, Alaine Hamblen, Meghan Lynch and Duncan Hamblen and his great grandchildren Traeger Lynch and Brecken Lynch.
AJ is preceded in death by his parents George and Lois Lynch, his brother, George Lynch, his sisters Mary Lou Gary and Joann Ladas.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30PM on Saturday March 16th at the Lynch Ranch, RedRock, TX. Contact the family for directions.
