William "Bill" J. Goertz

William Joseph Goertz, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 1st, 2010. He was born November 2, 1920 near Red Rock, Texas.   He was preceded in death by his parents Pius and Sadie Goertz, and two brothers Richard Goertz and Delphert Goertz. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Erlene Goertz; his daughters Debra King, Susan Wise and husband Nate; grandchildren, Michelle Tucker and husband Keith, Dannon King, Clint Wise, and Blake Wise; his brothers, Arthur Goertz, Gene Goertz and wife Ellen, Buck Goertz and wife Rose; and sisters Ella Mae Bartsch, Joyce Schuelke and husband John, Sister Thecla; and sister-in-law, Kay Goertz.             Bill served in the U.S. Navy as a cook on a refueling ship stationed in Waikiki, Hawaii, from 1942-1946.             After marrying Erlene and starting a family they moved to Lubbock Texas and Bill became the Sears warehouse manager and later retired in 1983 after 35 ½ years. After retirement Bill and Erlene moved back to Rockne and enjoyed living in their hometown.             Bill was a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop Texas for several years and later a member of Sacred Heart Church in Rockne, Texas. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 2527 in the Rockne Community.             Bill enjoyed working outdoors and always planted a large vegetable garden. He also liked to go fishing with family and friends. Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The Rosary will be recited on Monday, September 6th at 7:30pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockne, Texas. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 7th at 10:00am, also at Sacred Heart Church.  Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.             In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of William J. Goertz to the V.F.W. Post 2527 at 1503 FM20, Bastrop, Texas 78602.
