Kenneth Woodward Jones of Bastrop, Texas, was surrounded by family when he passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2017. He was 89 years old. He was born in Northampton, Massachusetts on May 6, 1928 to John Paul and Mildred Jones. He grew up in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania with his younger siblings, Sylvia and Donald, and enjoyed spending his summers at Camp Dudley boys' camp. In 1949, Ken graduated with a degree in chemistry from Williams College. Shortly after, he served in the army from 1950-1956.
While working at 3M in 1957, he met the love of his life, Lucille Adcox. They married on April 6, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan and spent 60 wonderful years together. Ken and Lucy raised two daughters named Carole and Kathy. As a family, they moved around from Kansas City, Missouri to North Caldwell, New Jersey, and finally settled in his favorite place on earth -- the great state of Texas. He spent many years working for Gulf Oil and Johnson Controls before retiring in 1987. He was a lifelong volunteer and devout Christian, committed to improving the lives of children wherever he went. Ken was active in the Rotary Club, where he helped to raise scholarship money for children to go to college. He was named an honorary deputy sheriff for Harris County, Texas in May 2002. Most recently, he served as a court-appointed special advocate for abused and neglected children, and as an usher at First United Methodist Church.
Ken will be remembered for his generosity, his fun-loving sense of humor, and his endless devotion to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Jones, his daughters Kathy Menegay and Carole Stern, his sister Sylvia Bingham, and his four grandchildren.
We will be celebrating the joyful life that he led in a memorial service at 11 a.m. on June 12, 2017 at First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or the First United Methodist Church.
