After a day filled with fun, family and friends, Zachary James Wallace, aka “Blue” was taken from us on February 26, 2017 in a tragic car accident in Cedar Creek, TX. Named after his paternal grandfather, James Wallace, Zach was born in Austin on June 6, 1993 to Michael and Christy Wallace. They knew they had something special the first time they laid eyes on him. They moved to Blue, Texas (how ironic) when he was just 6 months old. They joined the Methodist church and that is where Zachary was baptized. Two years later, Zachary’s best friend and confidant, his little brother Chase Martin Wallace, came into his life, which formed a bond that only brothers can understand. Zachary was always so proud of his little brother and his service in the US Navy.
The family moved from Lexington to Bastrop mid-semester of Zach’s kindergarten year. Christy chose Bastrop because that is where her sister, Cindy her husband Lee and their two children, Morgan and Madison Parker lived. The move to Bastrop allowed their children to grow up together, where they became the best of friends and super close like siblings. Zach attended all 12 years of school in Bastrop, graduating from Bastrop High School in 2011.
After graduation, Zach moved to Corinth, TX near Dallas and lived with his Uncle and Aunt, Hank and Ginny Taman, and their three children, Austin, Tucker and Michaela. He was like another son to them and a big brother to his younger cousins.
Later that year, Zach finished the Oil and Gas Program at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, and began working at Schlumberger in Lafayette, Louisiana. This is when his adventure began. He was a boy of 18 doing a man’s job, working on offshore rigs pumping nitrogen. His Schlumberger family took him in like one of their own. He was excited about being able to work with different people from around the world. He loved his boss Dave and often sought his guidance and council like a mentor. When the oil field started collapsing in 2015, Zach moved back to Bastrop to live with his mother and grandmother, Freddie Ware, and to be near family.
Shortly after moving back to Bastrop, he got a job at Texas Concrete working with his dad, starting out in dispatch/customer service. It didn’t take long before Zachary formed another work family and touched the lives of his co-workers, customers and friends. He had a gift of making people feel comfortable, accepted and important. This was Zachary’s legacy. From early on, Zach brought so much joy, peace and laughter into everyone’s lives. He made his parents and family so proud. He was so loving. He blessed hundreds of people’s lives; all who knew him are better people for having known him.
Zach had many interests. As a young man, he played baseball, football and golf, which became his main love, playing for Bastrop schools in both junior and high school. But sports were not Zach’s only focus. Anyone that knew him would say it was family and friends that he held most dear to his heart. And he has plenty of both. Zach is blessed with a large extended family, including his stepmother Robyn Wallace, as well as his stepsister and stepbrother, Malinda Turner Borrer and Lane Turner.
Zachary is survived by parents, Michael and Robyn Wallace and Christy Wallace of Bastrop; siblings Chase Wallace of Honolulu, HI, Malinda and Keith Borrer of Gonzales; Lane Turner of Lexington; grandparents James P. and Becky Wallace of Katy, TX, Freddie Ware of Bastrop, Clarence and Jane Schimank of Lincoln TX; Aunts/Uncles Lee and Cindy Parker of Paige TX; Hank and Ginny Taman of Carver MA; Ryan and Amy Lueders of Boerne; Ellie Wallace of Katy; Marcus and Janet Schimank of New Braunfels; Mike and Glenda Furry of Giddings; Nathan and Candace Schimank of Lincoln TX; and cousins Morgan and Mason King of Bastrop, Marlee King; Madison Parker of San Antonio; Austin Taman of Denton; Tucker Taman of Carver MA; Christa Lueders of Boerne; Annie Wallace of Katy; Sam and Caleb Schimank of New Braunfels; Tanna and Bodie Furry of Giddings; and Clay and Colt Schimank of Lincoln; Nephews Brody, Hadley and Hunter Borrer of Gonzalez. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sharon Grigar of Bastrop and Martin Pittman of Corpus Christi, TX and youngest cousin, Michaela Taman of Carver Massachusetts.
