Noah Preston Mcmullen

Noah McMullen, 94, passed away on the morning of Saturday, November 19, 2016 after spending the previous evening surrounded by his family. He was born April 6, 1922 in Red Rock, Texas to Monroe and Hettie McMullen. He grew up on a farm in Red Rock with his nine brothers and sisters. During World War II, Noah chose to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 9, 1942. He served on the USS Dixie stationed out of San Diego, California and traveled to places around the world including Hawaii, Santa Cruz, and the Philippine Islands. After three years of service he was honorably discharged on December 4, 1945. Noah was awarded numerous ribbons and medals during his time of service. Upon his return home Noah married Ruby Hanna on December 21, 1945. Together, they raised their children Pam and David at their home in Red Rock. Noah worked hard throughout his life. He spent time working on land rigs, as a stone mason in South Texas, and at the age of 65 he retired from Bastrop Ready Mix where he was a truck driver. He loved working on his farm where he raised cattle and was known for the oversized, vast producing garden he planted each year. “Papaw” also loved spending time with his grandchildren. As they grew older he was always excited to visit and full of questions about their daily lives. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruby, his parents, two half- brothers Charlie Starr and Jackson Starr, three sisters Mary Ovon Brinkman, Adele Lee, and Elva McMullen, brothers Odell James McMullen and Elvin McMullen. He is survived by his two children; Pam Frerich and husband Paul of Yoakum, TX, David McMullen and wife Maureen of Red Rock, TX, sister Edith Burdine of LaRose, LA, and grandchildren Kim Thornhill (Cooper), Emily Renken (Brandon), Chris Hollenbeck (Allie), Jessica Hollenbeck, Michelle Frerich and Cody McMullen. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren; Hanna Renken, Colden Thornhill, Madeleine Hollenbeck, Heide Hollenbeck and Juliette Hollenbeck. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Monday, November 21, 2016 at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00am Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bateman Cemetery.
