Betty Lee Morkovsky

March 5, 1936 — June 1, 2016

Betty was raised working hard on a farm growing cotton, corn and milo in Converse, Texas. She often told stories of hand picking crops with a tow sack. The family farm had no running water until 1990. Betty went to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator right out of high school in 1954 and retired after 35 years of service in 1988. She met her husband, Joe “Sonny” Morkovsky, at a dancehall and they married in October of 1955. They raised 3 sons: Nathan, Gary and Ronnie. The family enjoyed fishing and working on the farm raising cattle, pigs and hay. After retirement, Betty enjoyed bowling, gardening and was a passionate Texas Longhorn football fan. She will be deeply missed. Survived by: Nathan (Deborah), Gary (Debbie), Ronnie (Sharon), 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and her caregiver Maria Gamez. Siblings: Ola Mae Schultz, Irene Johnston, Lucille Hackler, Clara Meuth, Hugo “Butch” Schwanz and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: Joe “Sonny” Morkovsky Parents: Agnes & Hugo Schwanz Siblings: Alice Miller, and Thelka Renspies and several brother-in-law’s. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00PM Monday, June 6, 2016. Services are 11:00AM Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas.
