Lola Juil Wampler

Lola Juil (Davis) Wampler passed away peacefully in Kyle, Texas on January 7, 2016 at the age of 89, where she had been in the care of the wonderful staff at New Haven Memory Care. Lola was born on June 10, 1926 in Iowa City, Texas to parents Cora Lee (Arnold) and James T. Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Austin E. Wampler, her parents, four sisters, and three brothers. Lola is survived by four children, Frankie Newhall and husband David, Lorie Barnett and husband Don, Austin Wampler and wife Barbara, and Wayne Wampler and wife Brenda. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Lola spent her early years in San Angelo and then moved to San Antonio where she met Austin. They were married on August 8, 1948. Lola and Austin settled in Uvalde where they had their four children, and ran a successful crop dusting business. They moved to Smithville in 1963 and established Wampler Manufacturing in Bastrop, which initially produced cedar pet bedding. Lola and Austin grew the business in to a thriving custom cedar sawmill and lumber yard with the help of their two sons, Austin and Wayne. The two loved to travel and were very involved in the Shriners and Daughters of the Nile. Most weekends they could be found out dancing at social events. After Austin passed in 2001, Lola filled her days traveling with friends and helping her sons in the daily operation of the sawmill, which continues to be a family owned and operated business to this day. Graveside Services will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, January 12, 2016, Oak Hill Cemetery, Smithville, Texas.
