Walda Jean Raesz, 80, of Del Valle, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2015. She was born in Austin, TX on January 26, 1935 to Dewey Roosevelt and Jessie Lee Townley. Jean married her high school sweetheart, Edward Raesz, on June 6, 1953.
Jean and Ed loved to travel and enjoyed living and working in Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Alice, Corpus Christi, Harlingen, Amarillo, Lubbock, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Albuquere, and Baltimore. For a time, their house was on wheels. At home, Jean enjoyed sewing, bowling, fishing, gardening and bird watching. She had a love for teaching, serving, and ministering to others at their church. She and Ed were pioneers in beginning a senior adult ministry at First Baptist Church, Bastrop, TX.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceeded in death by her brothers J.D. Townley and Bill Wayne Townley and sister, Mary Atrelle Mahan.
Jean is survived by three daughters - Terri Raesz Miller and husband, Richard, of Boone, NC, Cristi Raesz Dollar and husband, Roger, of Amarillo, TX and Becky Raesz of Corpus Christi, TX; four grandchildren - Elise Miller Sigmon and husband, Kyle of Boone, NC, Grayson Edward Miller and wife, Katie, of Boone, NC, Breanne Nichole Dollar of Amarillo, TX and Tyler Wayne Dollar of Amarillo, TX; six great-grandchildren - Jacob, Jenna, Marshall and Miles Sigmon of Boone, NC, Cutter Dollar of Amarillo, TX, and Cybil Miller of Boone, NC. She is also survived by two sisters - Edna Louise (Weezie) Tom of Pflugerville, TX and Lou Ann Reid of Del Valle, TX.
A private graveside service was held Friday afternoon at Haynie Chapel Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held Sunday at 4:00pm at First Baptist Church, Bastrop, officiated by Dr. Raymond Edge, pastor.
