Joann Goertz

June 3, 1937 — August 19, 2015

JoAnn (“Gram”, “Grandma” and “Mom”) was born on June 3, 1937 in Cistern, Texas, to Max and Inez Kunschik. JoAnn was married to Maurice Goertz for 54 years and built and grew her family upon a foundation of unquestionable love and support. JoAnn’s life was centered around her family—there was never a breath taken by JoAnn without consideration for her children and grandchildren. She was a den mother to her son, a softball coach for her daughter, and a cheerleader and idol for her grandchildren and all that were close to her. She also loved watching baseball and Family Feud. She was endowed with a tremendous sense of humor which came in very handy given the antics and jokes played on her by her family, especially her youngest born. She was a mother like no other, her daughter’s inspiration and friend. She was a woman who enjoyed sewing stockings for the holidays, and embroidering shirts in the 80’s. She will be remembered for all the tokens of love that this crafting afforded to the momentous occasions in the lives of her beloved. JoAnn worked as an accountant and quality assurance supervisor for the state of Texas for 32 years first serving with the Secretary of State, later at the Comptroller of Public Accounts, and finally at the Texas State Lottery Commission. While words cannot express the depth of their loss, JoAnn will be survived by her daughter Maureen Mansfield (and her husband Darrell), son Richard Goertz (and his wife Linda), her nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, her numerous nieces and nephews, and her sister Maxine Vana. There will be a visitation with family and friends from 5-7 pm Sunday August 23, 2015 followed with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas Highway 71 East. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday August 25, 2015 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockne Texas. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Breast Cancer Research.
