Conner Eugene Wilkins

Conner Eugene “Gene” Wilkins, age 91, was born in Koenton, Alabama on October 13, 1923 to Henry Conner and Addie Bell Wilkins. He passed away April 23, 2015 in Bastrop, Texas. He married his first wife, Eva Lou Lewis, on November 27, 1943. After her death, he married G. E. “Jerry” Becker on March 21, 1998. He enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing. He worked at the family sawmill and then with the LCRA until retirement. He was a 1st Lt. in the U. S. Army Air Corps serving with the Air Transport Command, India/China Division. He was a B24 Liberator pilot in WWII and flew missions over the “Hump” (a route over the Himalaya Mountains) with supplies for the Allied Troops fighting the Japanese in China. Conner is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Eva Lou Wilkins; brother, Rudy Wilkins; and sister, Doris Rodgers. Conner is survived by his wife “Jerry” Geraldine Wilkins; four children, Marilyn Jean Cone, Ronald Lewis Wilkins, Charles Randal Wilkins, and Dee Ann Wilkins; stepchildren Renee Moore and Shana Pokorny; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. The family will receive guests from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Bastrop Providence Funeral Home on Friday evening, May 1, 2015. Funeral Services will be 10:00am Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the funeral home with burial following in Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors.
