Claude Charles Cobb of Bastrop, Texas died Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Bastrop Nursing Center in Bastrop after a lengthy illness.
Claude was born July 12, 1935 at Zephyr, TX to L. T. Cobb and Ida Ray Cobb. He graduated from May, Texas High School and attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. He married Martha McBride and they were the parents of two daughters, Gwen Messner and Lisa Hobbs. After Martha’s death he married Phyllis West who survives him. He served in the U. S. Army stationed at Fort MacArthur, California.
Claude was a manager with the Permian Corporation in Midland and Houston, Texas whose business was transporting oil. He was highly respected by those who worked for him as well as the numerous state agencies with whom he did business. After his retirement from Permian, he became one of the founders of HPDI, Inc., a distributer of oil and gas production data information. They became one of the larger distributers of such data in the Austin area. After retiring from HPDI and the death of his wife Martha, he returned to the area of his youth and lived with his wife Phyllis on a small ranch next to the property where he grew up in May, Texas. His failing health finally caused him and his wife Phyllis to move back to Bastrop in the Austin area. He was active in the Lions Clubs, the Kingsland Craft Club and many other civic organizations. He was a Christian and served in many churches. At his death he was a member and deacon of the Marble Falls Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis, his daughters Gwen and Tom Messner and Lisa and Merle Hobbs, their children Lindsay Messner and Shannon Hobbs, a stepdaughter, Tammy Lewis and her children David Thompson, Michael Alford, a brother Bill Cobb of Plano and his wife Shirley, a sisters Naomi and her husband Joe Ragsdale of San Saba, and Lomah Pittman and her husband Wayne of May.
A service for Claude in the Bastrop area will be held at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Highway 71 East, on Tuesday January 20, 2015 at 10:00 A.M.
A second service will be held for Claude 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 in the Kingsland/Marble Falls area at the First Baptist Church of Marble Falls, 501 12th St. with the Reverend Steve Peace officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery located South of May,Texas following a 3:00 P.M. graveside service at the cemetery.
