Mildred A. Bernhardt, 77, of Bastrop passed peacefully at home with her daughters by her side. She is now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior. Her long battle with COPD is finally over and she is breathing perfect air in heaven with no struggle. Mildred was a loving wife and mother. Before becoming ill, she had many hobbies. She enjoyed gardening and specifically enjoyed growing African Violets. She also helped maintain a beautiful yard full of lots of flowers. At home she enjoyed working on embroidery projects, cooking for her family, reading books, teaching Sunday school, and faithfully serving in her Church. Most of all, she provided a loving home for her family. She excelled in the “southern way” of cooking for them and performed whatever tasks that needed to be done with ease. She helped with homework, studied with both daughters for their exams, helped with special written reports and school projects. Her daughters told her that neither of them would have graduated high school without her help! She was a financial master because she knew how to pinch pennies when times were tight. When Tamra and Lori needed advice, she was their counselor and advisor of many things throughout her life. She did not attain a degree but was so very wise. We could only wish to have the wisdom that she had. She always did whatever it took and made whatever sacrifice necessary to help her family. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She will be missed so very much, but never forgotten. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Arthur Broome, her husband, Harry J. Bernhardt, and her brother Billy G. Broome. She is survived by her two daughters, Tamra Bernhardt-Mascorro and husband David; Lori Bernhardt Warren and her son Mason. The family would like to thank Austin Hospice, specifically Brian King, Jacque Schroer, and Lori White. Thank you for the love and care you gave our mother during her illness. We know you will receive your reward in heaven for your kindness. Thank you to Ryan Warren of Bastrop for his kindness throughout the years to our family. He was always there helping mom with whatever she needed when we were unable to go over and help her. You will always be the son she never had. She loved you dearly. A viewing will be held Wednesday, at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held for Mildred at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop.
