Maurice Eugene Goertz

January 12, 1931 — June 12, 2014

Maurice Eugene Goertz was unexpectedly called home to heaven on June 12, 2014. Maurice “Marce” was born on January 12, 1931 in Rockne, Texas to Philip and Rosa Goertz. He grew up in a small county town along with his two sisters and three brothers. Maurice proudly served his county in the Navy during the Korean War. To Maurice, the greatest treasure was his family and friends. Anyone who knew him can honestly say that he never met a person he didn’t like. He could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and talk with them as if he had known them all his life. He never held a grudge and always tried to see the good in everyone and everything. He had a warm sense of humor and a contagious smile. He loved to laugh and enjoyed putting others ahead of himself. He loved to fish and enjoyed the great outdoors, especially with his kids and grandkids. Maurice was a devout man of faith and longtime member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a son’s best friend. He brought tremendous joy to the lives of so many people and his warm spirit will never be forgotten. Maurice is survived by JoAnn, his wife of 54 years. He is also survived by his daughter Maureen Mansfield and her husband Darrell, his son Richard Goertz and his wife Linda, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his sister Nelda Thompson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockne, Texas. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
