Leona Mae Ward

Leona Mae Ward passed away on April 30 in Houston, Texas at the age of 94 years. She was born on December 8, 1919 in Bastrop, Texas to Alex and Emma Hoffman. She was married to John Ward for 61 years and lived in Giddings and Houston to raise their family. After John’s retirement, they returned to Bastrop and enjoyed many years involved in the First United Methodist Church, growing vegetables in their garden, daily visits to Lock’s Drug Store for coffee, and frequent visits from their kids and grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her son, Larry Ward, brother Elbert and sister-in-law Irene Hoffman, and brother, T.C. Hoffman.Her survivors include her daughter, Kay Bohannon and her husband Danny; daughter-in-law, Terri Ward; granddaughter, Michelle McMillan and her husband Chuck; granddaughter, Taffy Armand and her husband, Stewart; granddaughter, Susan Findley and her husband, Randy; grandson, Chris Barrett and his wife, Ashley; and six great grandchildren, Kayla McMillan, Mason McMillan, Bradley Ward, Kaine Brantley, Alyssa Rae Barrett, and Gavin Wayne Barrett; sister-in-law Gladys Hoffman, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.A special thanks to the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living Community and the staff of New Century Hospice.Visitation will be 1:00-3:00pm Saturday, May 3, 2014, Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations in Leona’s honor to your favorite charity.
