Dorothy Mae Purcell, born February 19, 1930 passed away March 29, 2014 at St. David’s South Austin at the age of 84. She is survived by Robert Purcell, her loving husband of 54 years; son Donald Raymond Scribner of Highlands, New Jersey; daughters Fleeta Robin Ishmael and husband David, Janice Arlene Givens and husband Rick, and Loretta Cecelia Dickson all of Bastrop, Texas; plus daughter Maureen Patricia McAdams and husband Terry of Forest Grove, Oregon; 16 Grandchildren; 18 Great-Grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Originally of Red Bank, New Jersey, Dorothy was a military officer’s wife with travels including Italy, Germany, Colorado, and Texas. In 1980, the family settled in Bastrop, Texas. From 1984-2001, Dorothy and family members owned and operated Nimble Needles Nook in downtown Bastrop.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to St. David’s ICU team of doctors and nurses for their professional and compassionate attention to Dorothy’s comfort and dignity during her last moments.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm with Rosary at 7:00 pm Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held 1:45 pm Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery San Antonio, Texas.
