On the morning of November 16, 2013, Stephen A. "Grip" Weber of Bastrop was called home to be with his Lord after a brief illness. He was 78 years old.
Steve was born in Blanco, Texas on October 8, 1935 to August and Olga Weber. He was the youngest of six children born to the couple.
Steve graduated in 1954 from Blanco High School where he met the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Evelyn Gourley, also of Blanco. The couple were married April 23, 1955 in Blanco.
Steve attended the University of Houston before he began working with Retail Credit Company in Austin. He worked there until he was transferred to Bastrop in 1962.
He found his passion when he began working at Bastrop Scale Company in 1977. He retired after 36 years of service with the company. However, he never stopped working. There was not a day you could not find him working in his workshop building or making something for his family or friends.
Steve loved the outdoors and spending time with his family whether it was camping, fishing, hunting with his brothers and son, or bowling. His talent in bowling earned him being inducted into the Nine-Pin Bowling Hall of Fame in Blanco last year.
He was also very involved in the Bastrop Community and one of the founding members of the Bastrop Jay-Cee's. Steve and the other members of the group were very proud of building the bookshelves for the first Bastrop Public Library.
Steve was proceeded in death by his parents, August and Olga (Petsch) Weber; his brothers, Frank, Walter, Laurence, and infant John; his sisters, Lillian Cox and Elnora Scheel.
Steve is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn; two daughters, Paula, of Bastrop, and Traci Potter and husband Dave, of Cypress; one son, Warren and friend, Tami and Tami's two children, Cody and Ciera Goode; grandchildren, Jake and Codi Potter and friend, Dusty Kadlecek; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear family friends, Michael and Rene' Kresge.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make a contribution in Steve's honor to Bastrop County MRA, P.O. Box 1476, Bastrop, TX 78602 or a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM, with Rosary at 7:00 PM Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 20, 2013, Ascension Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
