June Marie Evans Doerr, 82, passed away on October 22, 2013, in Huntsville, Texas surrounded by her family. She was born July 21, 1931 in Goliad, Texas to Robert and Beatrice Hensley.
While a student at Baylor University, she met her true love, Charles Evans. They were married December 24, 1949. Together they had 2 sons, Marcus and Keith, and raised them on the Evan’s Family Farm outside of Bastrop, Texas.
June was a career teacher and wife of a school superintendent. She was loved and respected by her students, and was an admired role model in the community. She was a dedicated advocate for the value of educating every child, and she was often credited with inspiring struggling students to continue and complete their education.
In 1979, June and her family were stunned by the sudden death of Charles, always strong; she continued her career and kept running the farm. Several years later, she re-married Eugene Doerr, also widowed, from Austin, Texas.
After retiring, she was very active in multiple activities with her close friends. She was an accomplished bowler, tennis player, bridge and domino player until the onset of her illness.
Again, always strong and determined, she battled her illness and surgeries for 12 years, the last 6 of which brought her to Huntsville.
June is survived by her two sons, Marcus (and Trini) Evans of Huntsville, Texas, and Keith Evans of La Grange, Texas. She leaves behind one sister, Violet Lillie, of Seguin, Texas, one niece, Debbie (and Lloyd) Thompson, of Kingsbury, Texas, and five grandchildren, Mark, Jennifer, Kimberly, and Joseph Evans, and Kellie Evans Braune of Lockhart, Texas. One great grandson, Braden, also lives in Lockhart.
June was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her second husband Eugene, and two grandchildren, Charlie and Jessica Evans.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 28, 2013, in Bastrop, Texas at the Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Bastrop’s Fairview Cemetery.
