Leroy Joseph Kana, 81 years of age, passed away October 20,2013. He was born July 22, 1932 in Holman, Texas to Henry Frank Kana and Mary Hajovsky. As a young man, Leroy worked on the family farm and graduated from La Grange High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country for four years. On April 28, 1957, Leroy married Jane Demel in Rosenburg, Texas. He graduated from the University of Houston. He was employed at Schlumberger and NASA before relocating to Bastrop, Texas and working for Tracor in Austin. He advanced to the position of Vice President for the Quality Control division, before retiring in 1997, and has since enjoyed his time as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his family and he loved to practice his faith. His kind and generous spirit made him beloved by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary, his brothers Fred Kana, Jack Kana, Frank Kana, Henry Kana, Jiggs Kana and John Kana, and his sisters Annie Cernosek, Mary Vacek and Ceil Bartosh. He is survived by his wife Jane, their sons Roy Kana and wife Elizabeth, Chris Kana and wife Dawn, Bruce Kana and wife Dianna, and Jeff Kana and wife Angie, and their daughters Holly Chojnacki, and Dawn Vinklarek and husband Mike, 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his sister Henrietta Strunk.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Smithville, Texas. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 7:00pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the charity of your choice.
