Sylvia Kay Swearingen went to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, February 5, 2013. She joins in heaven her husband Jim Swearingen, her daughter Julie Potts, son-in-law Raymond Potts, and many other family members and friends who have gone before her.
She is survived by: her oldest son Ralph and his wife Pam Swearingen of Bastrop, and her youngest son Larry Swearingen and his wife Paula Swearingen of Lafayette, Louisiana; Grandchildren Sara Swearingen Peterson and her husband Jason Peterson of Smithville, Seth Swearingen of Bastrop, and Megan Potts of Round Rock, Texas; as well as her sister, Myrna Pierce of Austin, and a brother Bill Claypool, also of Austin, and their families.
Sylvia was born July 18, 1937 in Smithville, Texas. Sylvia was affectionately known to many as “Aunt Sylvia” or “Gran.” She and her family were long time residents of Austin and then moved to Bastrop in 1974, where she resided. She was a 25 year employee of First National Bank Bastrop. Sylvia was a devout follower of the Lord and helped establish Wyldwood Baptist Church in Cedar Creek. She was a crusader in the fight against cancer, proudly supporting the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life events. She also helped organize grassroots efforts for what is now known as CASA in Bastrop. She loved spending time with her family and traveling across the country. Sylvia was loved by so many, and will be missed by all.
Visitation will be Friday, February 8th from 6PM-8PM at Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop. Memorial services will be held 11AM Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Bastrop Providence. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent in memory to the Relay For Life team of First National Bank Bastrop.
