T. W. Buck Jr. passed away on April 29, 2012, at the age of 91. He was the middle child born to Thomas Buck and Alva Jones Buck 0n October 20, 1920, in Garfield, Texas. As a young man he joined the navy and traveled the world but always longed to be home in Texas. Upon returning from the war, he settled in South Austin and married the former Eleanor Gober with whom he raised 3 children; together they enjoyed 60 happy years. T.W. spent many memorable years owning his own automobile business in Austin. He had a passion for cars and with his close friends Frank Miller and Roger Bohls, he built several including the Buck-N-Bohls which placed at the National Finals. At age 45, he returned to the Garfield land he loved so much and it was there he began to raise cattle, farm wheat, and grain sorghum. In 1985, he produced 11,000 pounds per acre, an unofficial national record, and was named Farmer of the Year. T.W. lived the remainder of his life in Garfield, proud in his life work, his family, the land, the livestock, and the crops he loved to raise.
T.W. was a good friend to many and loved his family and friends dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Buck, brother, Edwin Buck, and nephew Ed Buck. He leaves behind his sister Cleo Ellis, children Virginia Allison and husband David, Carol Whiteley, Bob Basey and wife Martha, granddaughter Michelle Basey, grandsons Dallas Allison, Cody Whiteley, Buck Basey, 6 loving grandchildren, many wonderful nieces, nephews, relatives, and a host of dedicated friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, May 2, at 2 pm at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Hwy 71 East, Bastrop, Texas 78602.
