Mary Lou Smith, 73, of Cedar Creek, Texas passed away on April 17, 2012 after a lengthy illness.
Lou was born November 30, 1938 in Bastrop. She retired as an Animal Health Technician from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Veterinary Services in 1991. She will always be remembered for her love for animals of all kinds and the care and concern she showed for their welfare.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Douglas Smith and her parents, Vernon D. “Honey” and Louise Wamel Schaefer.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy Thomas and husband Jeff of Bastrop; son Kirk Smith and wife Lisa of Cedar Creek; grandsons Shawn Juarez and wife Maria; Jonathan Juarez all of Bastrop; step-grandson Josh Thomas of Bastrop; step-granddaughter Chelsea Castillo and husband Chad of Buda; step-great grandchildren Mason, Jackson and Avery and numerous cousins.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with funeral services on Thursday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Highway 71East with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
