JAMES LEROY (Jim) GREEN - On November 20, 2011 (11-20-2011), our beloved father, grandfather, and friend gave up his earthly home to be welcomed into the loving arms of his heavenly Father.
Jim Green was born October 7, 1936 in Edinburg, Texas to Charles G. and Ruth Paull Green. He grew up in the Valley, excelling in sports and then went to Texas Lutheran College where he prepared for his chosen career of coaching and teaching.
After sharing Elementary and High School, Jim married Peggy Freeze Green and they had four children together: Kellye, Lonni, Rikki, and James Bradley (J.B.).
Jim spent his early years after college coaching in the Texas school systems and afterwards held various positions in sales and construction. Jim returned to coaching and teaching in Iraan, Texas in the early 1980’s and then moved to Ozona where he held various positions as a teacher and football and golf coach.
In June 1981, Jim married the former Zoe Miller and they spent 22 happy years together until her death. They loved to spend time outdoors – either on the golf course or at the deer lease.
Jim always loved people. Every one of you who have shared a barbecue, a ball game, or a hunting trip with him know his wonderful stories and tall tales – and knew to dodge his hands when he was talking!
Jim is survived by his daughters Kellye Green Prosise of Bastrop; Lonni Green Lee and husband Laine of San Antonio; Rikki Green Degelia and husband Jim of Bastrop; and grandchildren Laura and Katie Degelia; Brian Lee; and Sydney, Debra, and Daniel Prosise. All of you who knew Jim have heard the word “Proud” when hearing about his kids and grandkids.
He is also survived by sisters Pauline Gawlik Piper of McAllen and Nadine Warner and husband Hugh of Kingsland, brother Richard Green and wife Sue of Moses Lake, Washington, and sister-in-law Jo Green of Donna. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Green, and son James Bradley (J.B.) Green.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 1:00pm at the Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas. Friends and family will then be welcome to gather and share memories at the home of Rikki and Jim Degelia in Bastrop.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be dear friends Charlie McMahon, Ed Marburger, Buzzy Denyer, Charlie Edwards, Ronnie Pinkard, Mike Vordick, Mike Womack, and Mark Duncan.
The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to the many special caregivers that so lovingly attended to Jim in his final weeks.
