Bobby D. Glenn

December 7, 1957 — October 6, 2011

Bobby Darrell Glenn, 53 of Bastrop, born December 8th, 1957 in Ft. Worth died at his home in Smithville, on October 6, after a valiant seven year bout with cancer. Bobby was a devout Christian, loving husband and devoted father. His affable personality led to many lifelong friendships maintained from his years at Richland High School where he distinguished himself as an outstanding athlete playing football and baseball for the Richland Rebels. Bobby had an incredibly successful career in real estate sales and home building winning numerous awards including The Austin Home Builders Association’s 2007 Salesman of the Year award and multiple million dollar sales and Eagle awards. Bobby representing Choice of Dallas Ft. Worth built homes in Round Rock, South Austin, Georgetown, Elgin, and Bastrop and named model homes built in nearby Cola Vista after daughters, Hannah, Alex and Caroline. Bobby was a Broker in Charge at Spinnaker Resorts while he and Charlotte lived in Hilton Head, SC. He was a gifted speaker known for his wry humor, and ability to succinctly communicate amazing truths. Throughout his life, Bobby’s wit, sense of humor, common sense and vision were appreciated by everyone he knew. Children also felt his gift; Bobby with a little prompting, became a skilled puppeteer, “straight man” and Master of Ceremonies for Children’s Church for several years. Bobby was also an avid golfer who never quite attained perfection at the sport even with daily practice while a broker in Hilton Head. Bobby became a Christian at the age of seven and recommitted his life in 2006 to a life of worship, renewal and a search for rediscovered purpose. His beloved friends in the Band of Brothers at PromiseLand West were a constant support and source of inspiration. With Bobby’s desire to see all people empowered to act on God-given ideas for business, ministry and education, Bobby became an ardent supporter of conservative philosophy. He always believed he would be healed of cancer, but was fully prepared for a different outcome. He knew that, despite life’s imperfections and struggles, he would ultimately be united in a field of grace with fellow believers and the Lord. Bobby was preceded in death by his father Darrell Glenn and is survived by mother Pat Pursley, of Arlington, wife Charlotte, three lovely daughters, Hannah, Alexandria, and Caroline, all of Smithville, Texas and son Matthew of Hattiesburg MS, brother Cliff of Arlington, sister, Robin Morris of Wylie, and step mother Nancy Glenn of Dallas. Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 pm Sunday, October 9th at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Highway 71 East in Bastrop. Services will be held at 1 pm at PromiseLand Central Church 1504 E. 51st St, Austin on Monday, October 10th. Immediately following, internment will take place in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Pleasant Grove Loop (Cnty road 91) ofElgin Texas with a reception then taking place at First United Methodist Church, 216 W. 3rd St., Elgin. The family home was recently lost in the Bastrop Complex Fire. The kind assistance to the family from friends, Sherri and Tres Rivers of Elgin, Hyde Park Baptist School friends, Promiseland West Church Family, and the Bastrop, Elgin, Smithville, and DFW Metroplex communities, made it possible for Bobby to spend his last days with his wife and girls at home. The family is currently residing at1301 NE Sixth St, Smithville TX, 78957. The family also would like to extend deep appreciation for the incredible care Bobby received for years from many physicians most notably, our brilliant, kind, Dr. Eric Jonasch at MD Anderson, Marcia Holloway nurse practitioner for Dr. Jonasch, (their care added years he would not have had) our beloved Dr. Biel of Elgin, and Dr. Kampe @ Texas Oncology during the last several weeks of life.
