LaRue “Mac” McLaurin, age 88, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2011. He was born in Austin, Texas in 1923 to Annie Lee and William Franklin McLaurin. He graduated from Round Rock High School in 1941. In 1942 he married his high school sweetheart Artie Louise Ferrell who preceded him in death on June 19 of this year. They lived most of their 69 years together in Bastrop, Texas. Mac was a World War II veteran having served 33 months with the United States Army. Twenty-six of those months were spent in the European Theater with the 830th Aviation Engineering Battalion. After returning from the war, Mac was employed by the Texas Highway Department where he worked for 43 years. Retirement provided him with the opportunity to fulfill his lifelong passion of training and breeding bird dogs at his Piney Creek Kennels in Bastrop. He was also a professional quail hunting guide. Mac was an honorable, modest, wonderfully mischievous man who was devoted to and beloved by his family.
Mac was also preceeded in death by three brothers, William McLaurin, Hubert McLaurin and Marcus McLaurin. He is survived by one brother, James McLaurin of Nova Scotia. Also surviving are daughter, Marsha McCarroll and her husband Graham; son, Mark McLaurin; four grandchildren, Todd Mack and his wife Julie, Bradley McCarroll, Shana McLaurin, and Megan McLaurin; and one great granddaughter, Ferrell Mack .
Visitation will be at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Highway 71, East, on Monday, October 10, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Burial will be immediately following at Walnut Creek Baptist Cemetery, 12062 North Lamar Blvd. (Loop 275) Austin, Texas.
