Artie Louise Ferrell McLaurin, age 88, passed away on June 19, 2011. She was born in Cedar Park, Texas, one of eight children, to Artie and Francis Waymon Ferrell. She graduated from Round Rock High School in 1939 at the age of 16. In 1942 she married LaRue McLaurin.
Artie served the City of Bastrop for 28 years as City Secretary and Tax Assessor-Collector. After her retirement in 1989 she became a “Road to Recovery” volunteer for the American Cancer Society and for 13 years she drove cancer patients to Austin for treatment. She was a strong Christian and faithfully served the Baptist Church. Artie was always known for her sharp mind, strong work ethic, dedication, and devotion to her city, church, family, and friends.
She is survived by her husband, LaRue McLaurin; son, Mark McLaurin; daughter, Marsha McCarroll and her husband, Graham; grandchildren, Todd Mack and his wife Julie, Brad McCarroll, Shana McLaurin and Megan McLaurin; great-granddaughter, Ferrell Mack; sister, Irene Varan; brother, Jack Ferrell and his wife, Rosalind; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Highway 71 East, on Friday, June 24 from 6 to 8 p.m.
A celebration and thanksgiving service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 3001 Loop 150 East, Bastrop, Texas on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Walnut Creek Baptist Cemetery, 12062 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Bastrop or to the American Cancer Society.
