Alma Ellen Zarnow was born in the Watterson Community, Bastrop County on November 8, 1911 to Charles Clinton Lee and Susie Hendrix Lee. She passed away on
February 6, 2011 in Bastrop, Texas. Alma was the third child and oldest daughter of eight children in the family. She married Maurice Hendrix on December 2, 1928. They
had three children, Eva Joyce, Clinton Maurice, and Floyd Eugene.
Maurice died on July 11, 1951. After being a widow for seven years, Alma married Walter Mackel in 1958. Walter passed away on July 26, 1964. Alma married Fred
Zarnow on December 9, 1966. They had a wonderful life together until Fred passed away on January 19, 1981.
Alma was a wonderful seamstress. After learning to sew from her mother, she was instrumental in helping her mother keep the family clothed. Her sisters would find pictures in the Sears catalog of dresses they liked and Alma would cut her own pattern
and make each dress to perfection. Later on she sewed for the public making wedding
gowns, formals, dresses and suits. Her customers knew they could purchase an item of
clothing from the store and Alma could alter it to a perfect fit. Along with doing sewing and alterations in her home, Alma worked at Swiftex Furniture Factory for twenty-three
years.
Alma is survived by one daughter, Eva Joyce O'Dell of Los Banos, California and a son,Clinton Hendrix and his wife, Sherrie of Montgomery, Texas. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Paulette Hendrix of Austin and six grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Floyd Hendrix. Additional
survivors are her two sisters, Lemma Wilhelm of Bastrop and Hazel Kirk of Mason. Her brothers and sisters who preceded her in death are, Ernest Lee, Ray Lee, Charles Edward Lee, Marie King and Irene Conner.
For the last few years, Alma and Lemma have enjoyed their time together at Argent Court Assisted Living in Bastrop. The highlight of Alma's week was going to church on Sunday with her niece and her husband, Lorene and Raymond Cowan, and then joining a
group of family and friends at Chicken Express for lunch.
Visitation will be at Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop from 5 - 7 pm on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. Funeral services will be held at Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop on Thursday, February 10, 2011at 2:00 PM with Rev. Phil Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop.
Pallbearers are nephews: Jimmy Lee, Mark Lee, T. J. Kirk, Curtis Osborn, Donald Lee and Raymond N. Cowan.
Honorary pallbearers are: Charles Lee; Raymond A. Cowan, Tommy Osborn Mac Venable, Randy Caylor and Kellis Berdoll.
