Mary Jean Chalmers

Mary Jean Nichols was born to Wilkes Nichols and Mae Fisher Nichols on October 3, 1929 in Dallas, Texas. Mary Jean moved to Smithville, Texas at an early age and graduated from Smithville High School in 1947. On May 12, 1951, she married her husband of 60 years, Tracy Chalmers of Bastrop. They welcomed a son, Forrest, and a daughter, Sarah. Together they ran Tracy’s Drive In Grocery until their retirement in 1993. They enjoyed many wonderful years together with family and friends. Mary Jean is survived by: her husband, Tracy; son and daughter-in-law, Forrest and Karen Chalmers ; daughter, Sarah Chalmers; grandchildren, Tracy III, Kallie, and Marlayna Chalmers; grandchildren of the heart, Lily, Violet, and Jermey Botkin; and many beloved nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank everyone for their love, prayers, and thoughtfulness during this last month. Our family is blessed to live in such a loving and caring community. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Bastrop. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Bastrop. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Bastrop.
