Dewey Robert Turner passed away December 27, 2010 at the age of 85. He was born on June 27, 1925 in Bastrop to Mark Dewey and Bob Irene Spence Turner.
Dewey showed great strength in the face of adversity. At a young age, he overcame osteomyelitis that left him unable to serve in the Texas A & M Corps of Cadets or the military during wartime. He dedicated his professional career to the U.S. Civil Service working for the U.S. Post Office at Camp Swift and later retired from the U.S. Property and Fiscal Office at Camp Mabry in 1980.
He enjoyed spending time ranching and proudly devoted his time as a member of Mina Lodge #1456, Austin Scottish Rite, Caravaneers in Ben Hur Shrine, Royal Orders of Jester, and Order of Quetzalcoatl Court. In 2007, Dewey received one of the highest honors in his life by receiving The Golden Trowel Award from the Mina Lodge.
A man of honor, integrity, and principle, Dewey was a good and true friend who found delight in his Domino Buddies and his mornings with the Rockne Breakfast Bunch.
Dewey leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Micky; son Dewey Robert Jr. “Robby” and wife Kelle; daughter Jill Turner Green and husband Mike; and brother, Larry Turner. He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Bill and Allie Mae Buckner; and brother-in-law Billy Buckner.
Nothing made Dewey more proud than his loving granddaughter, Ellie Kate Turner. She could lift him up during his most challenging times, as she was the twinkle in his eye and always brought a smile to his face. The bond between them was greater than the many adventures, laughs, and Tic-Tacs they shared.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5:00-7:00pm at Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop. Services are 10:00am, Thursday, Dec. 30 at the funeral home. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Paul Tucker, Dr. Robert Izor, and the staff at South Austin Medical Center for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dewey’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Children Transportation Fund, c/o Ben Hur Shrine at 7811 Rockwood Drive in Austin, 78757 or a charity of your choice.
